Financial Aid
Undocumented students and DACA recipients cannot receive federal or New York State aid. In order to do so, you need to be a U.S. citizen or eligible noncitizen. Therefore, the main type of financial aid for which undocumented students and DACA recipients qualify are private scholarships.
Whether you're undocumented or a DACA recipient, you are able to fill out the FAFSA. Even if there are any errors, the university is still able to receive and download your FAFSA.
FAFSA instructions for undocumented students:
It is important that when you get to the question that asks "Are you a U.S. citizen?" that you select "No, I am not a citizen or eligible noncitizen."
FAFSA instructions for DACA recipients can be found on the Federal Student Aid office website.
For those scholarships that require you to have filled out a FAFSA, you can also fill out a copy of the paper FAFSA and mail a copy with your scholarship application.
