In-State Tuition

Undocumented students (including DACA recipients) residing in New York can pay in-state tuition at SUNY, CUNY and community colleges because of a law passed by the New York State Legislature as set forth in S. 7784/Bill No. A 9612-A effective August 6th, 2002.

You may be eligible for the resident tuition rate if you meet the following requirements[1]:

  • You attended an approved New York State high school for two or more years, graduated from an approved New York State high school and applied for admission within five years of receiving a New York State high school diploma; or

  • You attended an approved New York State program for a General Equivalency Diploma (GED or TASC) exam preparation, received a GED or TASC diploma and applied for admission within five years of receiving the GED or TASC; and

  • You submit to the campus a notarized affidavit stating that you will file an application to legalize your immigration status as soon as you are eligible to do so.

For more information on how to apply for NYS residency and obtain in-state tuition, check the "Express Application for New York High School Graduates / GED Holders" section of the Bursar and Student Accounts website.
